The Year of Tiger 2010

Gong Xi Fa Cai… Happy Lunar Year everyone! and Happy Valentine!!!

Welcoming the year of Tiger, may this year business and love is blossoming…  ~.~

Chinese across the globe celebrates Lunar Year, including in Indonesia who celebrate Imlek.

Vietnamese, says Tuyet Dam, also celebrate it.

Lion dance, fire crackers…

Having good food, family gathering and visiting friends, as well as giving kids lucky money!

Lucky money usually comes in a red envelope, known as hong bao [Indonesians call it ang pao]

hmm, angpao na lai! [:give me the angpao]

*by the way, some people view saying ‘angpao na lai’ is uncommon for adult, but others think it’s Ok to say among close friends and family, how do you think???*

The first day of the new year of Tiger 2010 is also Valentine day!

Eventhough I usually do not celebrate valentine day,

there’s nothing wrong taking part to express your love, isn’t it?

for all friends [@ Indonesia, Indomonashis @ Melbourne, @ Adelaide] who are always close to my heart…

I can really say how much our friendships mean to me!!!

You are the most precious treasure…

Happy V-day !

Gong Xi Fa Cai

Happy new year for the Chinese community across the globe.
I would like to convey my wish for prosperity and luck throughout the year.
The year of the Ox will start on next Monday, 26 January 2009.

The Chinese New Year has become a national holiday in Indonesia since 2003.
Indonesians commonly mention this new year as ‘IMLEK’.
‘Imlek’ comes from Hokkian dialect.
It means ‘lunar calendar’ or ‘yinli’ in Mandarin language.

‘Imlek’ celebration relates to ‘Angpao’ [Hokkian] or ‘HongBao’ [Mandarin], which means a red envelope ['hong' = red, 'bao' = envelope].
The red envelopes contained money will be usually given to kids during Chinese New Year.
Kids love ”angpao’…
So do we, don’t we?

Common expressions for Chinese New Year:

‘Xin Nian Kuai Le’ = Happy New Year
‘Chun Jie Kuai Le’ = Happy Chinese New Year
‘Gong Xi Fa Cai’ = Wishing you prosperity
‘Wan Shi Ru Yi’ = May everything be successful

and don’t forget another ‘magic’ phrase to end the above phrases is…

‘hong bao na lai’… which means give me the angpao!

Happy New Year once again…
