Go localisation! Oops… When you say this to Indonesians, they might be smiling or even laughing while starring a bit weird at you. Why? Because localisation in Indonesian language is ‘lokalisasi’ which is identical to prostitution.
But what I want to share is an idea of localisation related to global warming issue, one of our planet biggest problems. The localisation is the opposite of globalisation. Janek (2007) termed this ‘shift back to localisation in world trade’ as ‘Carbalisation‘.
Localisation refers to buy things from your local area. Buying from your nearest area means you shorten product shipping. The longer product-distance to reach final consumption, the more carbon-dioxide emitted from the shipping activities. Localisation helps in cutting carbon dioxide emissions from world’s shipping.
A detail example regarding this issue can be found in Perkins’ article(2007), which the title was a little alarming-’A Drink that might just Cost You the Earth‘. Imported bottled water, in fact, can significantly contribute to global warming.
Think for a while about the effects of something you buy on our Earth.
Your responsible buying support the sustainable life of our planet.
